Dry Needling

Unlock Relief. Enhance Recovery. Improve Performance.
At Fit2Perform, we offer dry needling as an effective treatment technique used by trained and licensed physical therapists to relieve pain, improve mobility, and accelerate healing. Dry needling targets myofascial trigger points tight bands of muscle that can cause pain and dysfunction using a thin, sterile filament needle inserted directly into the muscle tissue.
How it Works
-
Dry needling is a skilled, evidence-informed intervention that involves inserting monofilament needles into muscular trigger points, tendons, or connective tissues. Unlike acupuncture, which is rooted in traditional Chinese medicine, dry needling is based on modern Western anatomical and neurophysiological principles.
The technique helps to:
Release muscle tension
Improve range of motion
Improve muscle firing patterns
Promote tissue healing
Reduce pain and inflammation
-
Dry needling has been shown to be beneficial for a variety of musculoskeletal and neuromuscular conditions, including but not limited to:
Neck and back pain
Shoulder impingement and rotator cuff injuries
Tennis/golfer’s elbow
Hip and gluteal pain
IT band syndrome
Plantar fasciitis
Headaches and migraines
TMJ Chronic issues and locking jaw
Chronic pain and overuse injuries
And so much more!
-
Research indicates that inserting needles into trigger points can lead to local twitch responses, which interrupt the pain cycle and improve neuromuscular function. This response increases blood flow, reduces biochemical irritants, and helps the muscle to return to its normal length and function.
Dry needling may also modulate central sensitization and improve neuromuscular control by affecting peripheral and central nervous system pathways
A 2017 systematic review published in The Journal of Orthopaedic & Sports Physical Therapy found that dry needling is effective in reducing pain and improving function in patients with musculoskeletal disorders—especially when combined with exercise and other physical therapy techniques.

Treatment sessions vary in length, based upon need, and may involve needling several areas. Patients often report immediate or long-term improvements in pain and mobility. Mild post-treatment soreness is common and resolves within 24–48 hours.
Our physical therapists are certified and trained in dry needling techniques and always tailor the approach to each individual's diagnosis and treatment goals. Clients will be provided with post needling care instructions and exercises.
